New all time high at Daewoo

On 18 December 2008 there was steel cutting on the fifth drillship in a series of five constructed at the Daewoo shipyard for Transocean. With this steel cutting Daewoo had nine deep water drilling units to DNV class under construction at the same time. This is the largest number of such offshore units that has been constructed to DNV class at the same yard at the same time in the history of DNV. The activity is set to remain high throughout 2009 and 2010.

In January the second of two contracted semi submersible drilling units, named West Aqurius, was delivered to Seadrill thus bringing the number of units under construction down to eight.

"We are proud about the level of completeness we have achieved for the two Seadrill rigs. Both units were delivered ready to go directly into operation, and we think this is quite a remarkable achievement for such complex drilling rigs," project manager Mr. YS Lee from DSME says.
