DNV takes over IACS chairmanship

On July 1 Tor E. Svensen, COO of DNV Maritime, assumed chairmanship of the International Association of Classification Societies (IACS). The chairmanship rotates on an annual basis between the 10 IACS members.

“To secure the class societies continued existence we must anticipate and prepare for what will be expected of us tomorrow, not wait until we are forced to follow a defensive strategy dictated by others,” says Tor E. Svensen, COO of DNV Maritime.

“I believe that there is no alternative to class within the maritime safety regime. But the vital trust and respect we have in the marine community and in society at large, are easy to lose if we don't perform at the expected quality level - or do even better than expected,” Tor E. Svensen said.
