DNVがBehnke, Erdman & Whitaker Engineering, Inc. (BEW Engineering, Inc.) 社を買収
カリフォルニア州サンラモンのBEW社の買収は、クリーンかつ再生可能エネルギーにおけるDNVの成長戦略にとって非常に有益です。
BEW社は、マイケル・ベンケ氏、ウィリアム・エルドマン氏及びチャールズ・ウィッタカー氏により２００３年に創業され、特に太陽エネルギー及び送電ないしは送電網に注目して、再生可能エネルギー市場に対してコンサルティングサービスを提供しています。その後、３０名以上のスタッフを抱えるまで成長しました。
今回のDNVによるBEW社買収に先立ってBEW社は風力エネルギー分野におけるいくつかのプロジェクトをDNVとともに取り組んできました。BEW社のサービスは、DNVと重複することも競合することもなく、むしろ協力することにより市場におけるDNVの立場を高めることができます。
DNVのアメリカ及びサハラ以南のアフリカのCOOであるエリザベス・トールスタッドは、｢今回の買収により再生可能エネルギー市場に対する全面的なサービスの提供及びお客様へより近づくことができます。再生可能エネルギー分野における更なる成長のため、DNVの能力を強化するとともに、特に北アメリカにおける再生可能エネルギー開発に関する全面的なサービスを提供することが可能になります。また、太陽エネルギー、送電及び再生可能エネルギーの送電網の統合事業において、DNVにとって重要となるだろう。BEW社は、再生可能エネルギー分野におけるDNVのこの強みによく適合しています。」と語ります。
BEW社社長のウィリアム・エルドマン氏は、「われわれは、過去７年間にすばらしい成長期間を持った。DNVはBEW社にとっても最も良く適合していた。」と語ります。

The acquisition of BEW Engineering in San Ramon, California, supports the DNV strategy of growth in Clean and Renewable energies. “This will give DNV a more complete service line to the renewable energy market, and access to a significant customer base. It strengthens our ability to take on further growth in renewable energy sector and enables us to offer a more complete service portfolio for renewable energy developments in North America in particular. It will also act as a first centre of excellence for DNV in solar energy, power transmission and grid integration of renewable energy” said Elisabeth Tørstad, COO of DNV Americas and Sub-Saharan Africa. “They are a good fit with our current strengths in the renewable energy sector.”
BEW Engineering was formed by Michael Behnke, William Erdman and Charles Whittaker in 2003. They formed the company to provide consulting services to the renewable energy market with particular focus on solar power, wind energy and power transmission and grid integration. By the time of the acquisition, BEW had grown to over 30 staff. “We had a great period of growth over the last seven years, and had reached a size where we needed a stronger platform to continue to serve our customers” said William Erdman, President of BEW Engineering. “DNV was seen to be the best fit for BEW.”
The two companies were not unknown to each other. Previous to being acquired by DNV, BEW Engineering has worked on past and current projects with DNV for wind energy customers. Their services are not overlapping or competing with DNV, rather, together provide a service offering that strengthens the market position of the combined company.
The addition of BEW in San Ramon adds to DNV’s already strong presence in North America.
