“May ‘Al Gattara’ and ‘Al Gharrafa’ sail in calm waters and prosper in years to come, while keeping its crews safe and our oceans clean.”
Al Gattara’, the biggest LNG carrier ever built, was delivered to OSG Nakilat in Hyundai Heavy Industry, Ulsan, Korea on 6 November, and a naming ceremony for its sister vessel, ‘Al Gharrafa’ was held on 14 November. They are two of eight Q-Flex LNG carriers classed by DNV and built by HHI.
The Q-Flex vessel is the latest generation of LNG carriers. They are about 40% larger than conventional LNG carriers and capable of transporting 216K cubic meters of LNG. It is a new design, setting new standards for the LNG industry, and equipped with advanced twin slow speed diesel engines and onboard reliquefaction plant to return boil-off gas to the tanks.
The owner and the yard expressed their sincere appreciation to DNV for our effort and cooperation rendered during the full span of the construction period. This successful project has been headed by Sven Sandved in close cooperation with B.S. Choi and M.C. Jung.
